Gods Country

There is a highway that we travel sometimes.  It winds north of interstate through the beautiful canyons of western Kansas.  I call this highway the "road of my dreams.  I don't even know if my husband knows the real feelings of my heart when we drive that road.

I just love to set quiet and let my eyes take my heart to a place there on the canyons edge.  What would it be like to have a home there under that huge blue sky?

You can see for miles --- you see there are hardly no trees.  Only short sagebrush and soap weed cactus.  And that sky --- a soft blue with a milky type of cloud --- going on and on and on until it melts into the earth.

I can only imagine spending a day under that beautiful sky.  You see --- I don't really care for horses.  I prefer the four wheeler.  But you can't hear the beauty on one of those -- so we will  saddle up a horse.  Out we ride --- the sky is a dark blue and the sun is high over head.  On we go through the sage brush, the soap weed cactus and the grass.  Down ---down into the canyon.  Have you ever heard the turtledove's call -- or a meadowlark's song -- or a blue jaw's chatter?  Well listen close and you will hear it in the distance.

We have come to one of the many windmills.  It stands tall there all alone.  The tank stands full ready for the cattle.  On we ride down through the canyon then up again toward home.  Oh did you see those white tailed deer?

Can you imagine the beauty of the sunset or the sunrise in this country that goes on forever?  You would have full view as God painted His picture every morning and every night.  Only God can change His sky to those beautiful shades of color.

So many times I am drawn to the night sky.   They hold out a secret beauty to me.  Where we live you can see lots of stars on a clear night -- but out here in Gods country ---wow!!! I set on the back porch and watch as the night comes on.  I look up and there in the huge heavens hang millions of stars -- clear as crystal.  All around me is hush.  You see there are no people --- just me, the coyote, the sage brush -- and God.  I look to the east and there hangs a big yellow ball they call the moon.  Oh listen --- a lone coyote calls to me from somewhere deep in the canyon.  As the moon climbs higher into the stars I just set there daring to breath .  The scene before me is breathtaking.

This is what I call Gods country.  Somewhere nestled along a creek among these canyons is the
childhood home of my sweetheart --- my husband.

A Heart Love Story

Our bodies are made so magnificent. It is beyond words how each part works together, allowing us to laugh, cry, love, feel, smell and enjoy this wonderful world of beauty. I don't know about the rest of you, but my little mind is very busy! Every minute it is thinking. It goes here and it goes there, trying to find thoughts to run through my being. I was told to set my timer for 30 seconds and see if I could stop thinking. Guess what? I couldn't!! My mind just kept on going, and going.  In my case, a lot of times these things are negative, things that make me worry. Things that look so big and ugly. Things that can scare me.  There are so many things happening around us these days. Bad things. Shootings, hurricanes, wild fires, earthquakes, wars, sad experiences that happen right in our own life.  So many bad things that could overtake my whole being. Yes, my little mind is a busy little fellow. But you know what? Deep inside of me lays another little being. I like ...

Chapter 21 Move Over----We're Coming

It was the last week in January and the building was complete. It sat just north and east of our house. Goodness, compared to our current little metal farrowing huts, we appeared to really be in business. It measured 24 x 80 and was brown in color with a white roof. Two grain bins sat at the north side. One held grain for the farrowing and one for the nursery. An auger tube ran from the bin into the building so you could fill your buckets inside. There was a large pit at the end where all the goody would go for storage. Inside, fourteen crates sat on top of slatted flooring. Seven on each side, with a wide aisle down the middle and an aisle behind each row of crates. At the end of the middle aisle was the door into the nursery. Four large pens lined both sides back there with feeders and automatic waters in each pen. This was where the baby pigs would come at three weeks to be weaned from momma. Everything about this building was brand new. There was a very important reason for that!...

God Knows

I have been asked quite a few times:  "How did you learn to write?"    "Did you go to college or something?"  My fast answer to both questions is,   "No. I didn't even like high school, except for the "fun" I had." But....you know I have given those two questions more thought as of late.  I have changed my answer.  "Yes, I did go to college, just not the one with all those big buildings, dorm rooms, and huge classrooms with a professor standing down in front.  In my college, I didn't learn to be a doctor, a nurse, an engineer, or a teacher.  In my college, I learned to forgive and to forget.  I learned how to say good bye to grudges.  I learned how to break down walls and let love and compassion flow into my heart.  I learned to accept myself and be thankful for the place God has put me in.  I learned to see the beauty all around me, and be thankful for all things, even the smallest little thing....
